Kimi Raikkonen switches to rallying in 2010

Kimi Raikkonen tries his hand at rallying

Kimi Raikkonen will drive for Citroen’s junior team next year in the 2010 World Rally Championship.

The Formula 1 champion has signed a one-year contract, and that means the Finn could still return to F1 in 2011.

Kimi was quoted, “I always wanted to compete in rally, especially in the World Rally Championship at some point in my career. Thanks to Red Bull, I have the opportunity to drive the best car of the series with the Citroen C4. This is a new but very exciting challenge. I am really looking forward to testing the car and taking the start of the first rally.”

The Citroen’s junior team other driver Sebastien Ogier is the reigning Junior WRC champion, a team which is backed by Red Bull.

The 30 year old hoped to stay in F1 this year by negotiating with a competitive team no less after leaving Ferrari a year early, but unsuccessfully negotiated with team McLaren over financial terms.
