Mark Webber extends his contract

Amidst the drama surrounding his recent collision with teammate at Turkish Grand Prix, and reported thickening rift with Sebastian Vettel, Red Bull has brushed aside media speculation of Mark Webber contract to be terminated.

They have extended his current contract until 2011 end of season, so next year you’ll get to see the Aussie behind Red Bull wheels.

With that the Red Bull Racing team now has both Vettel and Webber to race for them next season.

Webber was quoted, “It was an easy decision to remain with Red Bull Racing. We began talking very early this year and were in a position to sign by the Barcelona Grand Prix.

The decision to extend for a further year was a mutual one; it’s widely know that I’m not interested in hanging around in Formula One just for the sake of it and at this stage of my career, I’m happy to take one year at a time.

I hope we experience more success together in the future and achieve our ultimate goal of winning the World Championship.”

I might say despite the ‘explosive’ relationship they have, both of them complement each other, and that will only do good for the team.

Before the contract extension, there’s a report that the outgoing Webber was to be replaced by F1 2007 World Champion Kimi Raikkonen.
