BrawnGP Jensen Button clinches Aussie GP pole position
It was a Brit who clinched the crucial pole position for Formula One 2009 season opener at Melbourne, Australia. Not it’s not reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton, but the other Brit, BrawnGP Jensen Button. This is his first pole position for three years, his fourth in total. What a fairy tale story eh. Deemed an uncertain future when his Honda Racing team opted to pull-out of F1 championship just four months ago, Ross Brawn new owner of BrawnGP threw a lifeline and kept the faith with the 29 year old by signing him and team-mate Rubens Barrichello, who is second in the pole position himself. Now of course Button need to repay the faith back, starting from the front, he’s in a position for a wonderful start to his 2009 season, that is if nothing goes wrong. Button was quoted, “The last five or six months for both of us have been so tough. Going from not having a drive or any future in racing to putting on-pole here is just amazing, it really is. I’ve got to give all credit to the team for making this happen. This is where we deserve to be after the tough times we’ve had.” The highly rated RedBull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel is in third spot. Another driver to watch out for! I just an underdog story eh. Remember tomorrow flag-off at Melbourne is 5pm, not 3pm as previous scheduled. Timing has been moved by the organisers to suit European audiences. Australia GP Qualifying (28 March 2009)
