McLaren duo tops Friday’s practice session at Australian GP 2010

McLaren Australian GP 2010

McLaren duo are the fastest at Australian GP 2010

Lewis Hamilton pipped his McLaren teammate Jenson Button as they became fastest pair at Albert Park for the second practice session.

Hamilton was ahead in 1:25.801 while Button could only settle with a time of 1:26.076.

Hamilton was quoted, “I feel more confident that, going into qualifying, we’ll be able to attack the guys who were at the front two weeks ago. I actually feel very relaxed: I’ve got a car that probably feels better than I’ve ever had at this track, so that’s a major positive.”

Despite being the fastest, the team principal of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes, Martin Whitmarsh, was quick to say that they’re not taking things for granted, and “not about too get carried away” by the pair excellent positions.

Marsh added there’s still work to be done, and hopeful his charges will rise to the occasion again for today’s Australian Grand Prix qualifying.

As for the rest of the F1 teams, Mark Webber was third fastest, with Michael Schumacher fourth, and a surprising Renault new driver Vitaly Petrov finished fifth.
