Alonso fastest at Interlagos during Practice

Fernando Alonso quickest during practice

Fernando Alonso quickest during practice

The Spanish two-time Formula One champion Fernando Alonso recorded the fastest time for the second free practice session.

The Renault man was clocked at one minute 12.314 seconds, ahead of a surprise package, Toro Rosso’s 20-year-old driver Sebastien Buemi.

Rubens Barrichello was third and was where he wanted to be if he wants to snatch the title from his teammate, Jenson Button. Britain’s Jenson Button was slower in both practice sessions than Barrichello

Barrichello is 14 points behind Button, while the other title contender Sebastian Vettel was seventh quickest in his Red Bull.

Championship leader Jenson Button needs to finish within four points of team-mate Rubens Barrichello to seal the 2009 drivers’ title. Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel needs to finish first or second in order to stay in the running for the title fight.

In the constructors’ standings, Brawn GP need just half a point to be declared champions, while Red Bull Racing need to finish first and second in both Brazil and Abu Dhabi with Brawn not scoring in both rounds combined to take the title for themselves.

GP2 driver and Toyota test driver Kamui Kobayashi will replace Toyota’s Timo Glock after tests revealed that he had cracked a vertabrae in his qualifying accident at Suzuka.
