Donington Park 100 Million Revamp For F1 Debut in 2010
After it was announced back in July last year that Donington Park has been awarded the contract to host the British Grand Prix for the next 10 years from 2010, the organisers there have been working round the clock with the planning and getting funding approved. Now the Park has finally been given permission by the North West Leicestershire District Council to go ahead with its £100 million revamp. Amongst the plan for the new setup at the park is a new paddock complex, F1 pit, media and medical centres, classy clubhouse and suites and extended track circuit to accommodate F1 track regulations. But the main objective on the revamp agenda is to build a ‘public transport Grand Prix’. It is stipulated in the agreement between owner and local councilors that if the traffic ain’t up to standards, the council can turn to the courts for an injunction to the construction stoppage. Some 250,000 F1 fans are set to flock Donington Park when British Grand Prix debut in 2010 at the new location. British Grand Prix is one of the oldest staged Formula One world championship and has been held at Silverstone Circuit since the beginning. The move to Donington Park, due controversy over improvement funding, sparked much furor from the local F1 fraternity and public opinion about it is split.
