No it wasn’t any of the five German drivers who won the German Grand Prix on their home-soil, but it was a Spaniard, and a Brazilian who rose to the occasion.
Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa of Ferrari, who were under the media radar this whole week, stole the limelight from their German counterparts.
Alonso finished 4.1 seconds ahead of his teammate in a race where the start matters. After Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel was slow off the mark, and dropped to third position, the two Ferrari’s led from start to finish.
Of course another talking point is the shameful tactic used by Ferrari where Massa gave his lead to Alonso, who has more points in the Driver’s Championship, and realistically a better chance to win the season.
Horner Criticises Team Orders
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner says Ferrari’s decision to allow Fernando Alonso to pass Felipe Massa was the “clearest team order I’ve ever seen”, and says that team orders are “wrong for the sport”.
