Video: German GP 2008 HighlightsLewis Hamilton of McLaren scored vital points for the driver and constructor championship as he clinched his second consecutive win after British GP and fourth top podium finish at the German GP, a surprise podium finish for Brazilian rookie Nelson Piquet of Renault, while Massa had to settle for third Hamilton now leads four points ahead of Massa, 58 to 54 points and a seven point lead over Ferrari’s Raikkonen. It was McLaren team first win at the German GP since 1999. Hamilton was leading comfortably when halfway through the race Timo Glock had a big crash due to hardware failure. The driver for Toyota hit the pit wall when his right-rear suspension failed. He escaped serious injury but was taken to the hospital for a complete check-up A safety car was immediately deployed after the race as the medics helped Glock into the ambulance and debris cleared on the track. Timo Glock was forced to spend the night in hospital. He luckily suffered no concussion and will most likely be given the green lights to race in Hungary GP By now Hamilton was behind the safety car as McLaren decide not to bring him for a pit stop, while the rest of F1 drivers was catching up and pitted with 17 laps to race. But the good thing his main rival Massa was in fourth behind Heidfeld and Piquet who was second and third respectively As the race continued, Hamilton as he refuelled, due his lack of pit stop than other F1 drivers because of the earlier crash, Hamilton dropped to fifth spot. But the young Brit was unfazed. As one by one of the leading drivers went for a pitstop, it was left to Nelson Piquet, Massa and Hamilton. The Brit stayed close and pursued both drivers and the gap kept closing-in.
