McLaren's Hamilton and Kovalainen are all smiles
With 10 races without a podium placement, team McLaren is hungry in Hungary. And that translate to the excellent timings the duo Lewis Hamilton and Heikki Kovalainen did yesterday.
Kovalainen tops practice session number one, while Hamilton bumped his teammate in the second round. Some might say, excellent results in the practice sessions are pointless, as most teams are still testing different configurations, but to me McLaren is looking faster and faster these days.
Even Mark Webber agrees that they are faster, “Yes faster, but it’s not just McLaren though, it’s Brawn, Ferrari, Toyota. There’s loads of guys. It’s a short track and it’s very repetitive in terms of corners. It won’t be this tight in Suzuka where the good cars have a chance to use their aerodynamics.”
It might be their new aero mods, but the defending World Champion Lewis Hamilton does has a history to start from pole every time he races in Hungary. Well you just never know. Watch for the McLaren today, they might just be a surprise package in qualifying. Kovalainen was the last year’s winner here in Hungary by the way.
As for the newest face in Formula One, Torro Rosso’s 19 year old Jaime Alguersuari showed his critics they were wrong. No he didn’t stalled in his first ever Formula One, he completed 82 laps with no problems, but however he ended last in the roster.
Plus rumors has it Hungarian GP will be Nelson Piquet last race, before Renault drops him. GP2 driver Romain Grosjean is reported to be his replacement.
