Malaysian GP will have a ‘Twilight’ race
In the footstep of a successful night race by Singapore Grand Prix last season, the debutante Dubai GP and Malaysian GP is set to follow the success formula this season. Although Dubai is still on course for its night race, the Malaysian leg has decided to scrap the plan until 2015, citing the “new floodlighting was too costly” and they’re “experiencing an economic slowdown”. So instead of a night race, Malaysian GP will have a ‘twilight’ race. This is when the previous 3pm flag-off time is brought later to 5pm instead. F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has given his approval for the new initiative, where being ‘unique’ matters in attracting more visitors to the F1. Sepang International Circuit (SIC) chairman Mokhzani Mahathir said that the new timeslot will still allow fans in Europe to view the live telecast, while the locals can enjoy a cooler later afternoon F1 event. Some 120,000 people are expected to congregate at the Sepang circuit this coming 3-5th April. Posted February 20th, 2009 in Malaysia by unclesha. |
